Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt
This is a blended malt named after Nikka's founder, Masataka Taketsuru. Recognised as the founding father of Japanese whisky, Taketsuru was the first among his countrymen to go to Scotland to discover the art of whisky-making, which he brought back home with him, to Japan. As a disciplined craftsman, Taketsuru has always been in search of perfection in the art of blending his whiskies, a personality trait that inspired Nikka to create the Taketsuru Pure Malt. This whisky is a blend of casks from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, Nikka's two distilleries, and showcases an exquisite balance between great softness and deep complexity. Nose : Fruity. Marked by citrus aromas like orange, but also by juicy pear notes. Complex and expressive, the nose evolves and reveals light herbaceous notes with a hint of peat and a slight bitterness, as it flows from orange to grapefruit. Palate : Round and delicate. Cereal flavours stand alongside sweet spice with a touch of cardamom. At the same time, candied fruit notes appear with a more assertive character, lending it depth and length. Overall : In line with the palate, a slight but discreet bitterness comes along with some peatiness, somewhat reminiscent of a full-bodied dark chocolate.
